Volunteer Certificates

Note: If you are a translator seeking a certificate, please ask your project manager to install this app, which is currently exclusive to Crowdin Enterprise.

When running open, crowdsourced translation projects, recognizing volunteer contributions can be challenging. This app enables self-service certificate generation, allowing volunteers to create personalized recognition certificates showcasing their translation work, proofreading efforts, or years of service.

How It Works

1. Installation & Setup

When installing, configure the app permissions based on your needs:

Permission modes:

• Admin-only access: Only administrators can generate certificates. Admins can issue certificates for any user in the organization.
• All project members access: Volunteers can generate their own certificates. Admins retain the ability to generate certificates for any user.

To enable self-service mode, set Organization Menu to "All project members" in Organization Settings → Apps → Volunteer Certificates.

2. Manager Configuration

In Organization Settings → Volunteer Certificates, customize:

• Organization branding (name, logo, signatory signature)

• Certificate types to enable (translation, proofreading, tenure)

• Certificate text templates using placeholders:

  • {{volunteerName}}, {{organizationName}}, {{period}}, {{wordCount}}

  • {{languages}} - list of languages in which the volunteer has been active (e.g. "German, French")

  • {{language_s}} - auto-plural ("language" or "languages")

  • {{tenure}} - tenure number only (e.g., "3" or "6")

  • {{tenure_period}} - complete tenure phrase (e.g., "3 years" or "6 months")

  • {{tenure_s}} - tenure unit plural ("year", "years", "month", or "months")

Custom templates support basic inline formatting tags only: <strong>, <em>, <b>, <i>, <u>, and <br> (no attributes, styles, or scripts allowed).

Example template: "Has been a volunteer translator with {{organizationName}} for {{tenure_period}}, contributing to {{languages}} {{language_s}}."

3. Volunteer Usage

Volunteers access Organization Menu → Volunteer Certificates to:

• Select certificate type (translation, proofreading, or tenure)

• Choose date range and target languages

• Generate & download professional PDF certificates

The app automatically pulls real contribution data from Crowdin's Top Members reports, calculates tenure from account age, and filters languages to show only those with actual contributions.

Verification

Optional verification system creates unique URLs for each certificate. Recipients can share verification links to prove authenticity - the public page displays masked volunteer initials and certificate details without exposing personal information.
