Set a maximum translation length for an entire file
Crowdin has a native feature to set a maximum translation length for specific segments. While this is great for software localisation, where each key may have limited space for display, marketing projects may need the ability to set a maximum translation length for an entire file. A common use case would be the translation of Google Play or Apple Store app descriptions, SEO meta information and the like.
When writing a Google Play app description, the company would try to use all of the 4,000 characters available, whereas when translating into German, a translator will most likely produce longer text that won't work due to its length.
This application would allow the manager to set a maximum length that a translated file should be. A manager can also limit the cumulative maximum length for selected segments of the file by using labels. A manager will also get a nice view of the total file length for each file translated into each language.
A translator will see information about the current source text length of the file, the maximum allowed translation length and the current translation length to keep control of the limit.
A manager will find the application in Project->Tools after installation. Open the application and click on the file to set the maximum translation length allowed for that file. Then instruct the translators to check the translation in the application as they translate.
Crowdin is a platform that helps you manage and translate content into different languages. Integrate Crowdin with your repo, CMS, or other systems. Source content is always up to date for your translators, and translated content is returned automatically.
